Valencia Airport (VLC), about 8km west of the city centre, is the main gateway, connected by a Metro line reaching the city centre in around 25 minutes. Valencia enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm, sunny summers, generally less extreme than Madrid or Seville. Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-October) offer particularly pleasant temperatures for exploring both the historic centre and the beach. Las Fallas, a major festival in March featuring giant sculptures and fireworks, transforms the city for several days and is worth experiencing, though it also draws large crowds.
Valencia's historic centre is compact and walkable, and the city is notably bike-friendly, with a well-developed network of bike lanes connecting downtown to the beach. The Turia Gardens, the long park built over the former riverbed, provides a pleasant, mostly traffic-free route on foot or bike between the City of Arts and Sciences and the historic centre.
